Breathing Underwater

My head sags between my thighs

After I stumble into the carport

Sweating away the thrill

Subsiding into

Everything.

Naked

Stripped of aura

My raw skin blisters

With every gust of wind

The pores

Breathing in

Discarded pizza boxes

Bubblegum

And the last slice of

Blackberry pie

But also the sweet breath

On my neck

When you laugh

The sun tickling my cells

The veins of plants

Thrumming alongside

My own bloody

Rivulets.

Wading neck deep

In the bioluminescence

Of my mind and then

The head submerges and

The gills sprout

In this order

There never was another way.
